Karen Marshall is the Director of Community Outreach in the Communications and Marketing Division where she is responsible for the leadership of community relations staff for the transit agency of the nation's fourth largest city. She directed METRO’s public involvement for the planning phase of the METRO Solutions Mobility Plan, including the start-up of the Red Line and the coordination of a citywide education program, supporting the 2003 Referendum. Marshall is currently focusing on initiatives that will enhance METRO’s reputation in the community and increase ridership, such as community engagement in support of METRO’s Hispanic Marketing campaign and programmatic collaborations with organizations, such as AVANCE and Neighborhood Centers Inc.

In addition to educating the public on METRO’s current services, she is also working on the next phase of METRO’s expansion plans, Phase 3. In this role, she is developing the communication and organization structure that will help accelerate the long-range plan. 

Ms. Marshall brings more than 27 years of experience, having worked at Fortune 500 companies such as Exxon, JP Morgan Chase and Enron. She served on the National Board of Directors for the National Black MBA Association and was the past president of the Houston chapter. She is also currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Greater Greenspoint Management District and the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce. She previously served on the Board of Directors for the Center for the Retarded and the Julia C. Hester House. She is a graduate of the United Way Project Blueprint Program and Leadership Houston alum Class XXV. 

She earned both a Bachelor of Business Arts degree and Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Houston.
