METRO TO KICKOFF NATIONAL NIGHT OUT EVENT

October 6, 2008

METRO is recognizing National Night Out, Tuesday, October 7, 2008, with an anticrime fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at METRO’s Administration building at 1900 Main.

METRO police, along with its Special Operations Response Team (S.O.R.T.), bomb techs and award-winning K-9 unit will be on hand for this event. MPD will also give tours of its specially outfitted operations equipment - the Mobile Operations Command Center (MOC) and bomb truck - as well as field questions and hand out crime prevention literature.

“Our goal is simple – get criminals off the streets and keep our neighborhoods safe. We need the community’s help,” said METRO Assistant Police Chief Tim Kelly.  “By joining forces, our fight against crime and drugs is much stronger.”

National Night Out was started 25 years ago to curb crime through awareness and police-community partnerships.

Target, one of the sponsors of this year’s National Night Out, will also have a display in METRO’s lobby.

MPD will also be participating at the National Night Out event at Discovery Green on Tuesday from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.
